Gifts for Gun Lovers

We get it – you’re looking for gift ideas for gun owners, whether they’re a gun-guy (or gun-gal), and you don’t know what to get.

As a gun-guy, I admit that it is hard to get me a gift.  That’s why we compiled this list of gifts for gun lovers

Shooters can be particular about their shooting gear and there’s a good chance that they might already have what you’re getting them. Also, if you’ve already been shopping for shooting related gifts, you might have notice that gun gear can be quite expensive.

Well, worry no more!

We’ve compiled some lists of gifts for gun enthusiasts in your life. We’ve also categorized them by cost so you can find gifts for men who like guns (and women too) no matter your budget.

Also, we only recommend shooting gifts that we’d buy ourselves from reputable companies with great return polices.

In this shooter’s gift guide, we’re going to explore gifts for gun enthusiasts by price and by shooting activity:

Gifts for Gun Lovers under $25

Gun gear can get expensive, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find affordable gifts for gun owners.

Here are some great gun owner gift ideas for under $25.

1. Organize Their Eye and Ear Protection

Shooters need eye and ear protection!

The number one rule for eye and ear pro is to have it with you! This carry case makes it easy for your shooter to go to the range without forgetting, nor damaging, their eye and ear protection.

Our #2 recommendation below for gifts for shooters under $50 is our favorite set of electronic ear muffs. This case will work perfect with those (they are actually pictured here in the case)!

This case is also perfect to carry and extra set of eye and ear protection to the range to loan to a new shooter: Hard Travel Case for Eye and Ear Pro

If you also need an inexpensive set of eye protection/shooting glasses, here’s a link to the ones pictured in the case: Sharp Shooter Glasses

2. Learn To Shoot Long Range

The Long Range Shooting Handbook is far and away the most popular precision rifle shooting book.

It has been a #1 Bestseller on Amazon for almost 3 years straight, it has raised tens of thousands of dollars for military charities, it’s sold over 65,000 copies, and it has over 750 reviews and carries a 4.9 star rating!

The book is aimed (pun intended) at demystifying long range shooting. Too many instructors try to explain the concepts of long range shooting and either make it sound WAY too complicated or they don’t really understand it and are just repeating what they’ve heard from someone else.

This book was written by a former special operations sniper with multiple combat deployments who has spent years teaching military and police snipers.

Many of the reviews of this book explain how, although it is suitable for beginners, this helped those with many years of experience learn how or why something is the way it is. Even very experienced long range shooters have admitted to learning from this book and becoming better shooters.

This book is a great addition to any shooter’s library.

3. Decorate Their Gun Room

One truth about gun-guys and gun-gals… they’re ALWAYS thinking about guns and shooting. 🙂

Here’s a great gift that will make your gun lover happy that doesn’t actually have to do with shooting.

This set of four firearm patent prints are just nice enough that they might be able to sneak them into other parts of the house, but they are perfect for a gun-room/man-cave.

These prints have good reviews and come unframed. We have not personally seen these, but we included them in our list because we thought that they’d be a thoughtful gift: Firearm Patent Prints

Don’t forget to leave enough time to get these framed or pick up your own 8x10 frames to do it yourself.

4. HELP THEM DRINK IN STYLE

Now here’s a shot glass that’s actually a “shot” glass!

This is such a great idea as a gift for a shooter. It will surely be a conversation piece any time it comes out.

This is a handmade glass with a REAL bullet in it.

No, it wasn’t actually shot with a gun (it would’ve shattered). But, the glass has been indented and a real bullet has been glued in place. This is not dishwasher safe.

There are over 700 reviews for this on Amazon and it has a 5 star rating – seems like a safe bet for a great gift.

Check out the this glass, along with other variations here: Shot Glass

5. TIME TO CLEAN UP

To enjoy shooting it, a firearm must be cleaned and lubricated properly.

We personally get a bit picky with our solvent and lubrication choices. However, this kit is a great place to start (especially for pistol shooters).

Even if your shooter has a full cleaning kit, this is handy to toss in their range bag to keep with them in case it’s needed at the range.

The Hoppe’s solvent smells like grandpa cleaning his guns, the needle-tip oiler lets you put lubricant right where it is needed (we’ve grown to hate anything other than needle-tipped bottles for oil), and the bore-snake is the quickest way to clean a barrel.

Big note here: the bore-snake is super handy and super fast. It can do a great job and we swear by them. However, it is not a replacement for a thorough barrel cleaning, especially for precision rifles.

You must ensure that you get the right size bore snake for your recipient’s firearm. If they have a 380 or a 9mm, get a 9mm size. If they have a 40 S&W or a 10mm, get the .40 size. And if they have a 45 ACP, get the .45 size.

Check out the this maintenance kit: Solvent, Oil and Bore Snake Kit

6. MAKE RANGE TIME EASIER AND MORE FUN

There aren’t many things that are more frustrating when shooting than shooting at a target and not being able to tell where you’re hitting.

These Splatterburst Targets make it super easy to see impacts – they can also be a lot more fun to shoot!

The black on the target is like a thick paint that easily flakes off around each bullet hole to reveal the fluorescent green background. Each target also comes with extra black circle stickers that can be used to cover previous hits to get a lot more use out of the target.

These should be part of every shooter’s gear.

7. KEEP KIDS SAFE

Children’s firearm safety begins with adults – all firearms should be safely stored out of the reach of children or under the direct control of a responsible adult.

There are WAY too many accidents that happen with guns that result in a child being harmed or killed.

This book, There’s Only One You: A Firearm Safety Book for Children, is a children’s book that parents will actually want to read and that children will want to hear.

The story follows Alice and Jack who each tell each other about minor household accidents that were easily fixed or cleaned up. However, once Jack finds a firearm, the previous message from the parents of “accidents happen, I know it’s true, but nothings more special than my love for you” changes to “Stop, get away and tell an adult” when a firearm is involved because “there’s only one you.”

This is also a great gift for those without guns in their home because their kids need to know what to do when they encounter a firearm somewhere else.

8. Get Them Cool Gear – All Year

Not sure what to get them? Let some pros pick out the gifts for you!

The BattlBox Basic subscription sends them a new box EVERY MONTH will cool new stuff for them.

This not only gets them more than one present (of course, it costs $24.95 every month), it also gives them something to look forward to each month and will remind them of your gift all year long!

(note: check out our #2 recommendation from this list in the picture, the Long Range Shooting Handbook).

There are larger subscriptions available and we included the next larger/better box in the following list for gun gifts under $50.

Gifts for Gun Lovers under $50

Looking for something a bit nicer as a gift for your gun enthusiast?

Here are some great gun owner gift ideas for under $50.

1. Help Them Get an FFL

What is an FFL? It is a license that allows someone to be a gun dealer or manufacturer.

This is a gift that will keep on giving by helping them save money on future guns and even make money by selling guns!

They can save money by buying guns straight from manufacturers/wholesalers at dealer cost, they won’t have to go down to the local gun shop for their paperwork and pay transfer fees, and they can get free shipping straight to their home.

They can make money by selling guns and they can become the go-to gun-guy or gun-gal in their shooting circle of friends.

Checkout RocketFFL if you’d like to learn more about getting an FFL. Some helpful topics for you might be looking up FFL cost, how to get an FFL, and FFL Types.

2. Protect Their Hearing

Gun lovers need hearing protection!

Even if they have their own favorite set of ear pro, having an extra set in their range bag is SUPER helpful… especially if they ever want to take someone else shooting.

There are many types of hearing protection out there, however, our favorite type of ear pro (especially to give to new shooters who might still be learning) is electronic ear muffs.

And, the BEST electronic earmuffs are also some of the least expensive: Howard Leight Impact Sport Ear Muffs

These allow the wearer to amplify normal sounds (like talking, range instructions, etc.) and they automatically cancel out loud noises like gunfire.  I’ve used MANY of the much more expensive sets of these and nothing beats the battery life (they have an automatic shut off feature), volume, and durability of these ear muffs.

With over 7,000 reviews and a 4.5 star rating, others seem to agree with us.

If you’d like a case for these, check out our recommendations for shooter gifts under $25 above.

3. Educate About Guns and THeir Values

Here’s a great gift for men who like guns.

The Blue Book of Gun Values is a great gun-guy library addition.

Either get them the next edition (this is the 39th) for their collection or start them here and get a new one each year.

This book is a comprehensive collection of just about every production firearm available and their relative values.

I personally am not concerned with the values of guns, but I still love thumbing through this book to see what is available and to daydream about guns.

It’s a safe bet as a gift for a gun enthusiast that might have everything else.

4. Build Their Own AR-15 at Home

That’s right, you can get a gift for your gun lover that allows them to build their own AR-15…legally!

The lower-receiver of an AR-15 is legally the part that is considered a firearm. This is the base/frame to which all of the other parts are attached (kind of like the frame of a car).

You can purchase an Aero Precision AR-15 Lower Receiver (which is treated as a full firearm) online and then have it shipped to your local FFL. From there, you can go get it transferred to you as a gift or you can send the recipient down to have it transferred to them. Although it’s perfectly legal to pick it up yourself as a gift for someone else (as long as you have no reason to believe they can’t possess a firearm), we strongly recommend having them go in and do the paperwork themselves.

Of course, it’d be way easier just to have them be their own FFL (see item #1 in this list).

If you’d rather not deal with a complete/real firearm, you can purchase a kit that allows them to make the finishing touches themselves at home. This allows you to purchase a non-firearm and allows them to convert it into an actual firearm at home (yes, this is legal under federal law). If you’d like one of these “80% receivers”, please check out the Matrix Arms 80% AR-15 receiver.

This is perfectly legal for any lawful gun owner under federal law – make sure this is legal under you state laws too!

For more info, please check out our article that covers some of the technicalities/legalities of 80% firearms.

5. Get Them Cool Gun Gear All Year Long

Not sure what to get them? Let some pros pick out the gifts for you!

The BattlBox Basic subscription sends them a new box EVERY MONTH will cool new stuff for them.

This not only gets them more than one present (of course, it costs $49.95 every month), it also gives them something to look forward to each month and will remind them of your gift all year long!

There are larger and smaller subscriptions available and we included the next smaller box in the previous list for gun gifts under $25.

Gifts for Gun Lovers under $100

Ready to step your gift for your gun lover up a notch?

Here are some great gun gift ideas for under $100.

1. Protect Their Gun and Be Safe

As you can tell from our 7th gift idea for gun lovers under $25, we take firearm safety seriously.

Your firearm should be safely stored away from children, or other unauthorized users, but it also needs to be quickly accessed in case you need it for self defense.

This is where the GunVault Electronic Combo Safe comes in.

We love this safe and our team each owns at least on of these for storage around our homes. We think that mechanical safes are better (stronger and less likely to malfunction) but this is a perfect solution as an under $100 gift for gun enthusiasts. For the absolute best pistol safe available, check out our favorite, the Fort Knox PB1.

The finger grooves make it easy to align your hand in the dark and then press your unique combination to open the safe. The combo can even be set to require more than one finger at once – fast and secure!

Once unlocked, the door springs open and a handgun, flashlight, and spare magazine can be easily accessed.

We really like the less expensive combination model – the biometric model is not very reliable.

This is not a theft-proof safe – it is a tamper-proof storage solution and it should be secured to something to discourage someone walking off with it.

Extra point: if someone enters the wrong combo, you’ll be notified with extra beeps the next time you open the safe!

2. Build Their Own Handgun at Home

That’s right, you can get a gift for your gun lover that allows them to build their own handgun…legally!

Check out a similar idea for building their own AR-15 as item #4 in the list above.

The frame of a handgun is legally the part that is considered a firearm. This is the base/frame to which all of the other parts are attached (kind of like the frame of a car).

You can purchase a Polymer 80 handgun frame online and have it shipped straight to your home – no FFL needed!

The gun enthusiast gift recipient finishes the “80% receiver” at home with common hand tools and then builds the handgun exactly the way they want.  This is perfectly legal for any lawful gun owner under federal law – make sure this is legal under you state laws too!

For more info, please check out our article that covers some of the technicalities/legalities of 80% firearms and it provides an ENTIRE build-list of every part/consideration that the recipient will need in order to build this into a complete firearm.

We break down budget options and our favorites – we even include a video of the finished product of building a Glock at home.

Some versions of this may sneak over $100 – please go check the current prices.

3. Make Training With A Firearm More Fun

Steel targets are the way to go!

I know, it might sound weird to encourage shooting at steel. After all, wouldn’t the bullet ricochet? Nope!

In fact, shooting at steel targets is one of the most rewarding ways to shoot.

Steel gives you instant feedback (sight and sound) and they can last a lifetime!

If your gun lover likes to train, especially with a handgun, then please check out these steel targets – they’ll love them!
