From the description of the Long Range Shooting Handbook on Amazon.com;

This book is the complete beginner’s guide to long range shooting written in simple every-day language so that it’s easy to follow. Included are personal tips and best advice from my years of special operations sniper schooling and experience, and as a sniper instructor. If you are an experienced shooter, this guide will be a resource covering the principles and theory of long range shooting.

This is the preliminary book to help you understand fundamental concepts such as MOA vs Mils and external ballistics, that can be like a trusted resource at the range.Learning to shoot long range isn’t that difficult. Once you understand the basics, you can start to master your technique and you’ll be hitting targets in no time.

The author has a series of online instructional videos known for their ability to take seemingly complex areas of long range shooting and breaking them down so that they’re easy to understand. This book was motivated by the feedback from those videos.

The handbook is broken down into three main categories: What it is/How it works, Fundamentals, and How to use it. “What it is/How it works” covers equipment, terminology, and basic principles. “Fundamentals” covers the theory of long range shooting. “How to use it” gives you practical advice on how to implement what you’ve learned so far to make you a long range shooter.

Long Range Shooting Topics:

HOW IT WORKS
Learn how your rifle, ammunition, and scope work! Before you can use them properly, you should know how they work.

EQUIPMENT SETUP
Learn how to set up your rifle and scope properly. If your gear isn’t set up the way it is supposed to be and so that it fits you, you’re not going to get the results you want.

MOA, MILS, AND MORE!
Learn the “classroom basics” of long range shooting. This book will help you understand the technical details of long range shooting like MOA, Mils, and more!

BALLISTICS
Finally understand the science behind what is happening to your bullet as it flies through the air!

Long Range Shooting Equipment

The first few chapters of the Long Range Shooting Handbook cover the basic equipment used to shoot long range.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Precision rifles
  • Ammunition for Accuracy
  • Optics/Scopes for Long Range Shooting
  • Rangefinders
  • Ballistic Software
  • Binoculars
  • Shooting Bags
  • and more

These sections may be a bit slow for some advanced readers, but you should not skip them! There have been many readers who have admitted learning something in these early chapters even when they thought they knew everything they needed to know about long range shooting.

Ryan is very careful to get everyone on the same sheet of music before advancing into the tougher topics of long range shooting.

Long Range Shooting Theory

In this section, Ryan covers ballistics and environmental effects on shooting long range.

This section includes:

  • Milliradians (Mils)
  • Minute of Angle (MOA)
  • Meters/Yards
  • Internal Ballistics
  • External Ballistics
  • Ballistic Coefficients
  • Air Density
  • and more

Long Range Shooting Application

Finally all of what is learned about precision rifle shooting so far is put into practice.

This section of the Long Range Shooting Handbook explains how to shoot by starting with the fundamentals of shooting (where everyone should start) and progressing to some more advanced shooting techniques.

If you’ve been wanting to learn about long range shooting, this book is where you should start!

EXTRA NOTE: At GunUniversity, we’re HUGE fans of the information at PrecisionRifleBlog.com and were surprised to see a quote from this book on an article of theirs about precision rifle barrels.
