Whether you’re a gun owner or enthusiast, keeping your firearms in good condition is essential for ensuring their optimal performance and safety. One of the best ways to protect your guns from damage and wear is by regularly oiling them with high-quality oil.

So, can you use motor oil to oil your gun?

Yes, you can use motor oil to oil your gun. However, this might not be a great option, since legit gun oil will also contain rust inhibitors which most motor oil does not have.

So consider your circumstances when you use it. It’s definitely a great option for the internal working parts, but if you’re storing your guns, you may still wish to use a gun oil on the outside.

Motor oil, such as Mobile 1 Synthetic Motor Oil, contains specialized additives that help it provide excellent lubrication for your guns. This makes it perfectly suited for use as a gun cleaner oil. It will help keep your firearms running smoothly and reliably for years to come.

And if you’re worried about using motor oil on your prized collection of guns, don’t be. Not only is motor oil non-toxic and safe to use on all types of firearms.

Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil Specs

Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil Review

Mobile 1 Synthetic Motor Oil is so great for lubricating firearms, especially things like AR-15s and I use it often on my CZ Shadow 2, it might not have all of the features as general gun oil, but when you can buy one bottle of synthetic motor oil which will last you forever, it’s a fantastic option for lubricating you gun.

It isn’t the most premium metal conditioner on the market, but it’s without a doubt more cost affective than any other gun oil I’ve ever used. It’d be difficult for me to believe that a bottle of Mobil 1 isn’t a good option to have in your cleaning kit.

Remember that this is to help your guns run, it isn’t good for cleaning nor preserving firearms – you’ll need to get a gun oil with rust inhibitors in it for that.

If cost and simplicity are as crucial as performance, just pick up a quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic, a few oil bottles with fine dispenser tips, and use the money you saved on ammo.

Mobil 1 Pros and Cons

  • Really Cheap
  • Large Quality compared to what you’ll need
  • Excellent Performance
  • Bottle not ideal for dispensing
  • Bottle not ideal for travel
