Glock, Glock, Glock, it’s all about Glock. If you have purchased a pistol in the last four decades, it’s all about Glock. Glock rules the market, and more than that, the Glock is a very simple firearm. It really is when you dive into it. The Glock is remarkably simple. It’s also very easy to upgrade, and well, there is an entire industry of companies looking to upgrade your Glock. This includes the triggers. Upgrading Glock triggers is seemingly part of the experience of owning a Glock.

Do you have a boat? Because there is a veritable sea of Glock triggers out there to sail through. Glock triggers are abundant in the aftermarket. This has included a wide variety of unique designs from different companies. There are so many freakin’ Glock triggers out there that it can get downright annoying to pick one.

With that in mind, I can’t just tell you the overall best one to buy. It’s not that simple. We use Glocks for such a wide variety of purposes that one trigger can’t do it all. I grabbed seven of them.

TangoDown Vickers Carry Trigger Review

TangoDown and Larry Vickers teaming up is always going to result in something great. This go around, we were able to get a Glock trigger out of the team up. The Vickers Carry Trigger is designed to provide an increased level of control over your trigger, a smoother trigger pull, and improved ergonomics. Additionally, the designers of the Vickers Carry Trigger have ensured that it is suitable for carry and not excessively lightweight or unsafe. It retains the safety of the Glock OEM trigger while improving the trigger pull.

The TangoDown Vickers Carry Trigger uses a flat-faced trigger, which is my personal must-have with an upgraded trigger. The flat-faced design better accommodates smaller hands and provides you with more trigger surfaces. This translates to additional control over the trigger. It’s a design that moves straight rearward, meaning it’s doing less to potentially throw off your grip.

The Vickers Carry Trigger doesn’t change some of the core concepts of the Glock trigger pull. While it’s much smoother and grit free, it keeps the same basic weight and trigger pull distance. This ensures not only safety but isn’t a radical transformation from the Glock-type trigger you might have already gotten used to. The only real difference in traditional pull length and reset I can feel is the decrease in over-travel.

TangoDown uses high-quality materials and smart construction to design and put together a fantastic trigger design. It’s incredibly reliable, and there are no set screws to fall apart or trigger geometry that damages the frame. They produce the Vickers trigger for Gen 3, 4, and 5 guns, as well as the Slimline options.

To be clear, that is just the actual trigger portion. It is not the bars that connect it to the striker. This means you won’t get the best trigger possible with just the trigger shoe. However, you can always polish your trigger bars and do the classic 25-cent trigger job. I like this trigger so much it made my list for the best Glock upgrades. I could only pick one trigger for that list, and this was it.

TangoDown Vickers Carry Trigger Pros and Cons

  • Affordable
  • Flat-faced trigger
  • Excellent design
  • It’s only the trigger shoe

Glock Performance Trigger Review

Glock took their time in getting into their own aftermarket triggers. Finally, Glock embraces the world of aftermarket triggers by producing the Glock Performance Trigger. They unveiled it at SHOT 2023, and as usual, Glock might have taken their time, but they produced an awesome trigger. The Glock Performance Trigger is pretty unique in its design, and it’s also not for everyone.

Glock uses a partially cocked striker design that is technically a double-action design. A Glock trigger fully cocks the gun and releases the trigger. The Glock Performance Trigger delivers a single-action-only experience by fully cocking the striker. When you pull the trigger, the only thing this gun does is release the striker. This drastically improves the trigger pull and results in a much, much lighter trigger.

This type of modification is more aimed at the competition market, where speed and accuracy are the absolute biggest demands a shooter has. With this in mind, the Glock Performance Trigger is limited in its applications for most shooters. Outside of just improving the trigger pull, the trigger shoe is wider, easier to pull, and much more ergonomic than the classic Glock trigger.

The Glock Performance Trigger is also a Glock OEM part, so it’s not going to potentially violate a warranty. Glock also doesn’t make unreliable guns or unreliable parts. That’s a big guarantee in the reliability department.

The downside to this setup is not just because it’s limited in its application, but because it only works for the Gen 5 Glocks. If you have a Gen 3 or 4, the option is currently off the table for you. With that in mind, it’s impressive and makes your Glock shoot like a Walther PPQ.

Glock Performance Trigger Pros and Cons

  • Remarkably short trigger
  • Easy to install
  • Built with Glock quality
  • Only for Glock Gen 5s

Timney Alpha Competition Series Trigger Review

Timney does fantastic things to triggers. Not just Glock triggers, but many types of triggers. Since today is all about that beautiful Glock trigger, let’s take a peek at the Timney Alpha Trigger. Timney specifically labels this a competition series trigger, and it’s a bit light and a bit short for duty or carry use. The Alpha Competition Series aims to improve the trigger pull of Glock Gen 3, 4, and 5 models.

The Timney Alpha trigger replaces the polymer trigger shoe with a metal flat-faced design. Flat-faced triggers are excellent in the ergonomic department, and it certainly gets rid of that annoying trigger rub Glock is famous for. The Timney Alpha trigger series is all metal as you’d expect, and they coat the trigger bar and sear with a teflon nickel finish. This keeps things remarkably smooth throughout the entire trigger pull.

The Alpha trigger brings your pull weight down to about three pounds consistently. We can adjust the Timney Alpha Trigger to reduce take-up and eliminate most pre-trigger wall movement. I felt a hair of over-travel, but not enough to matter much. The trigger delivers a remarkably smooth experience, and it certainly lives up to the Timney reputation.

This trigger is also extremely well-made. It won’t fail you and has a ten thousand-round independent test behind it. The Alpha Competition Trigger is a premium-grade trigger, and it has a premium-grade price. At about 150 bucks, it’s not cheap. That’s nearly a third of the price of a standard Gen 4 gun.

Timney Alpha Competition Series Trigger Pros and Cons

  • Very lightweight
  • Durable and reliable
  • Easy to install
  • Expensive

Overwatch Precision TAC Trigger Review

The Overwatch Precision TAC Trigger appeals to the shooter that likes to tinker and customize their gun. Most Glock triggers appeal to that type, but the Overwatch Precision TAC Trigger takes it a step further. When purchased, you can pick between a variety of colors, two different trigger bar types, and trigger bars with NP3 coatings or polished designs.

Once you pick and choose your parts, you get to install an excellent all-around trigger. They aim the Overwatch Precision TAC trigger at the duty and carry market. It’s not absurdly lightweight, but it really smoothes out your trigger pull. We see a reduction in weight only slightly, but a much smoother take-up and very crisp trigger break.

The TAC Trigger uses a metal, flat-faced trigger that’s smooth and easy to pull. This trigger’s design improves the trigger shoe and gets rid of the old trigger rub. The TAC trigger isn’t fully flat. You might notice that hook. To me, it seemed off at first, but I later realized it’s a clever add-on. It ensures your finger is always on the trigger as much as possible and doesn’t slide off the trigger and rub the trigger guard when shooting fast.

The Overwatch TAC Trigger has the downside of being a bit expensive. It’s not the priciest option, but you are paying for that extra modularity. However, you are getting a ton of options and can easily get the exact trigger you need for your gun. Not a bad option all around.

Overwatch Precision TAC Trigger Pros and Cons

  • Improved trigger pull
  • Excellent ergonomics
  • Trigger index hook
  • Blade could be wider

Apex Action Trigger Enhancement Review

Apex is another big trigger company. Arguably, that’s what they do. They are a trigger company, so by now, they better have gotten pretty good at it. The Action Trigger Enhancement kit is their fancy way of saying a drop-in Glock trigger. This setup combines the Apex trigger shoe, the Apex Ultimate Safety Plunger, and the Apex Performance Connector to give you the full experience of a better trigger.

Once you drop everything into place, you have effectively reduced your trigger’s pull weight by about a pound. You’ve also reduced the pre-travel, the overall travel, and you even get a shorter, louder reset. It’s grit free and ultra-smooth, which results in a very nice trigger pull and excellent trigger break. The Apex design retains the Glock center-mounted pivot, so it’s 100% safe and retains the Glock’s safety features.

The Apex Action Trigger Enhancement is a simple upgrade that makes a major difference to how your pistol handles and performs. The flat-faced design delivers excellent ergonomics and feels just as good as it looks. It looks good because you can change several colors and design.

There are a few extra parts involved in the installation process. They aren’t difficult, but they do require a little more time to finish. There are different variants for the Gen 3-4 and the Gen 5 versions. It’s also available to all Glocks except the large frame models.

Apex Action Trigger Enhancement Pros and Cons

  • Great weight reduction
  • All around trigger upgrade
  • Excellent ergonomics
  • Requires additional installation steps

Zev Technologies Zev Pro Curved Face Trigger Ultimate Kit Review

Zev was one of the OGs of Glock shops. They’ve produced triggers for Glock platforms forever and have really helped the platform grow and evolve. Zev even brags that they have won more world championships than all other after-market triggers combined. My selection from Zev isn’t your typical drop-in trigger kit. This a full-on install and kit that will do whatever is necessary to improve your trigger pull and feel.

The Zev Pro Curved Face Trigger Ultimate kit is more than a trigger and trigger bar that just drops into your gun. This all-inclusive kit includes the trigger and trigger bar, as well as the ejector housing, the PRO connector, the Trigger Spring, PRO Striker Spring, the stainless steel firing pin safety, the firing pin safety spring, and the skeletonized striker. It’s a big kit, but believe it or not, all of these parts affect your trigger pull.

This requires some installation skills, and it might be something you trust a Glock armorer to do. This invasive process does end with one of the best triggers on the market. The experience is one that is super crisp, with a radically decreased trigger weight. It will take two pounds off your trigger.

On top of that, it smoothes things out. It’s like butter when you’re done with the install. You’ll see a decrease in reset, less creep, a smooth trigger pull, and a very positive click when the trigger resets. The ZEV Trigger is a very well-made complete trigger replacement system that does wonders for your Glock.

Zev Technologies Zev Pro Curved Face Trigger Ultimate Kit Pros and Cons

  • Amazing trigger
  • Noticeably lighter pull
  • Comfortable design
  • Requires full install

Johnny Glocks Evolution X Drop-In Combat Trigger Review

I know that I often let my bias slip in on these picks, and most of my picks are flat triggers. With that in mind, I have to include one more. The Johnny Glocks Evolution X trigger with the JG VEX metal shoe gives you one of the flattest triggers out there. It’s super flat and, interestingly enough, wears a texture that sticks your finger to the trigger. The Evolution X trigger allows for excellent ergonomics and makes it easy to get consistent, positive control over the trigger.

The Johnny Glocks Evolution X Drop-In trigger features an interesting trigger bar design. They use a mechanical method to smooth out the trigger bar. It’s de-burred and smoothed over. This helps get that good smooth feel that makes a trigger nice. It’s famously an overlooked portion of what makes a good trigger.

The Johnny Glocks Evolution X Drop-In trigger system is designed to be a duty-ready trigger mechanism. It features a 3.5 to 4.5-pound break. That’s well within the duty limits of a good trigger. Where we see a massive improvement is in the overall feel of the trigger. It’s smooth, without any over-travel, and with a very aggressive reset. This is a great overall design, and a lot of thought went into its construction.

The downside is that the complete kit is about 400 bucks. I’ve spent less than that on a used Glock. Johnny Glocks produces this kit for all generations of Glock pistols. It’s also made for the slimline series of triggers, so they do cover a wide variety of guns.

Johnny Glocks Evolution X Drop-In Combat Trigger Pros and Cons

  • Super smooth trigger
  • Aggressive reset
  • Excellent tactical design
  • Expensive

Buyers Guide

So why exactly would one even want to upgrade their trigger? That’s a great question to ask.

Before I answer, let’s talk about accuracy. Your trigger can affect your accuracy. It’s much easier to shoot a stock Glock than it is to shoot a double-action-only revolver. With that said, the trigger on a stock Glock is already nice. Even the best trigger upgrade isn’t going to have drastic effects on your accuracy.

It really comes down to fundamentals more than other triggers. An experienced, skilled shooter will certainly see an accuracy improvement between high-performance triggers and standard stock options. However, newer shooters may feel disappointed when they realize a new trigger isn’t a magic wand to exceptional accuracy.

I’m saying all this to you because I did just that. When I was a new shooter, I thought I could just swap parts and instantly see impressive accuracy changes. Call it my wisdom of expectations. You’ll see more improvements from buying and shooting 500 rounds of 9mm than you will from a new trigger.

Why Should You Trade out a Trigger

Okay, now I’ll answer the question. It’s a multi-part answer, so strap in.

A Better Trigger Pull

Glock often suffers from that plastic-on-plastic feeling trigger. It’s not exactly enjoyable for anyone involved in the whole process. It’s not a bad trigger, but it can be improved. A new trigger bar and trigger shoe can help smooth it out, as well as give you less take up and over travel. This results in an excellent trigger pull all around.

Comfort

The key problem with the Glock trigger to me is how it rubs my finger. A stock Glock trigger becomes a real pain. I mean that, literally. After a few hundred rounds, the trigger will start to rub your trigger finger in a really irritating way. Enough to cause actual pain. Replacing the trigger will get rid of that feeling.

Easier Reach

The stock curved Glock trigger will fit most shooters without issue. However, as well know, there are exceptions to most shooters. If you have smaller hands and feel the initial reach to the Glock trigger is a bit long, then a flat-faced trigger shoe might be the solution to your problem. The flat design typically reaches a little rearward and makes it easier for small hands to find the trigger.

Speed

Less over travel and a shorter reset could make you a faster shooter. Keep in mind you have to be of a pretty high skill level to notice a difference, but it’s possible. It does require a lot of practice, but we can feel it with competition-grade triggers.

For Fun

Tinkering with Glock handguns is fun. You get to learn about them, experience how they function, and ultimately have a little fun changing out your trigger. It is your gun, so make it your gun. Not to mention triggers like the Franklin Armory Binary trigger offer you a pretty thrilling experience that might not be useful, but it can be quite fun.

To tag onto that, if this Glock is for self-defense purposes, then you should make sure you test the trigger extensively. You might purchase a perfectly good trigger but fail to install it properly. That can happen, so make sure your gun goes bang just as well as it always has. Engage in some healthy live and dry fire after the installation and make sure it’s working.

A Word of Caution

Before I finish up here, let me leave you with a word of caution. Tinkering with Glocks is plenty of fun. However, you need to ensure you are not going to decrease the reliability of your firearm. The trigger listed above are all from reputable manufacturers with years in the business. There are plenty of fly-by-night companies that pop up, offer parts, and disappear. Keep that in mind when you start shopping.

Why Are There So Many Different Glock Triggers

This answer is simple. The Glock trigger is easy. The whole pistol is easy. I remember installing a short reset trigger into my CZ P09 and being absolutely shocked at how complicated it was. I had done Glock triggers before, so I expected it to be just as easy. Little did I know that I was completely wrong. CZ’s triggers were miles more complicated.

That’s one reason. The other is that Glocks are super popular weapons, and there is an aftermarket to support them. No one makes parts for guns people don’t buy. Glock’s design and popularity have made them real winners, and that’s why you can take swimming lessons in the pool of Glock triggers.
