The KelTec KS7 is a fascinating shotgun. It’s a bullpup, tube magazine-fed design that borrowsa lot of inspiration from the KSG. Unlike the KSG, the KS7 uses a single magazine tube that holds seven cartridges. The KS7 provides you with a gun roughly the same size as a Mossberg Shockwave with two extra rounds and a stock. 

The KS7 Gen 2 has recently been released, and we wanted to revisit our accessories article to celebrate its launch and discuss how to make the most of this bullpup, pump-action powerhouse.

Optics

The KS7 originally had a replaceable carry handle. Users could swap the carry handle for a pciatinny rail to mount optics. The new KS7 Gen 2 comes with a flat-top optics rail standard. This makes adding optics much easier. If you’re like me and still rocking and rolling with the standard KS7, you can drop the carry handle and swap it with a rail from KelTec easily enough. 

The KS7 series uses an inline stock, much like an AR. Because the stock is in line with your shoulder, you get less muzzle rise. However, this requires you to use AR height sighting systems. This means an AR height mount. Luckily, that’s not exactly uncommon. We have plenty of options. 

So for me, this would be one of my upgrades.

Weapon Lights

Any and every home defense weapon should have a light. A light allows you to identify a thread and, most importantly, tell friend from foe. In a Gen 1 stock configuration, the carry handle offers you multiple M-LOK slots for mounting accessories. You can directly attach lights or attach rail portions, then lights. 

With the Gen 2, or a Gen 1 with a flat top rail, you can mount a light directly to the rail. There is plenty of room in front of the optic for a light, and this makes it easy to mount and rock and roll with. Because you are limited by the ergonomics, attaching any old light might not be feasible, so I’ve picked a few that fit within the KS7’s constraints. 

Lights should be easy to access and bright enough to cut through any darkness ahead of them. These weapon light salso need to be extremely capable of withstanding recoil. Twelve-gauge shotguns are not known for their soft nature, so the light needs to be capable of withstanding it.

Slings

Slings are important to any defensive, hunting, or tactical weapon. Slings allow you to retain your weapon and keep control over it if you have to use your hands. The KS7’s short nature makes it easy to sling and easy to carry. The tactical sling market has exploded, and most serious shooters have turned to some variation of the quick-adjust two-point sling. 

These are the slings used by the military, police, and professional shooters. Slings are handy to have. On shotguns, a sling can be even handier. When properly adjusted and tightened just right, you can use them to help reduce recoil. The sling can’t reduce recoil by itself.
