Trident 1 Review
The one my buddy uses at his shop is the Trident 1 FFL because it’s all about enhancing the customer experience—and happy customers mean better business. We selected it because of the good marketing and customer relationship management (CRM) features, which can attract new folks, but more importantly, keep our regulars happy.
The Trident 1 automates everything from gunsmithing and managing our shooting range, to handling training sessions and firearms sales. But one of the best things about the Trident 1 is that it has a customer-facing app, so our regulars can use it to book training sessions, check their appointments, and make payments. So far, we’ve never had any complaints.
Because they are partnered with FFL software like FastBound and FFLGuard, Trident 1 also exceeds ATF standards and it tracks every entry, edit, and correction, so you’ll have a perfect audit trail for compliance. Before we got a POS system, my buddy was actually using FastBound for compliance and it really made sense to go with Trident 1 because of the simple transition. He trained his employees on it without any big issues and while we ran into some roadblocks, it was usually stuff we didn’t know how to do yet and our customer rep John was very quick to help us resolve it. They have top tier customer service and I couldn’t recommend them more.
Another plus about them is that Trident 1 is run by veterans. The owners are former Navy Seals and most of their workforce are veterans, so when you buy Trident, you know you are supporting an American and veteran-owned business.
Now, Trident 1 is a cloud-based system. Even though technically this is a good thing, I’m kind of conflicted about it. When both of us went on a hunting trip to Alaska last year, my buddy could manage his store from there as long as we could find an internet connection. But the trade-off is that, without an internet connection, there’s not much we could do with the POS system.
Overall, I honestly can’t say anything bad about the Trident 1. But if I were to nitpick, the only bummer is that it’s a more expensive option than several of the other solutions listed here. But if you have the budget, I recommend going with the Trident 1. It is a POS system that’s worth the investment.

Bravo Store Systems’s main thing is helping you maintain maximum ATF compliance. So if compliance is what you want to focus on, they are the ones to go for and you won’t have to pull your hair out trying to navigate all the regulations.
The POS system, once you’ve set it up and have a good handle on it, is great to use; it automates everything from discounts and returns. Bravo also has all the standard POS features like inventory management, automated e-commerce and in-store sales, robust reporting, vendor catalog integrations and gun-friendly payment processing. So, they’ve got you covered from every angle.
But I have to say, it’s their ATF Portal that makes them stand out. It gives you everything you need to manage those E4473 forms for new transactions. You can store records electronically and easily conduct audits and traces. It’s like having a personal assistant to handle all the paperwork for you.
Another thing that I really like is that Bravo has built in estimators for used guns making it easy to know the value of used guns when you buy them, sell them offer a trade. This feature is powerful – allows businesses already selling used guns to improve margin (Bravo customers experience and average of 54% margin on used guns), and it equips businesses to start buy/selling used guns because the tool does the value assessment for the employees. Assessments are based on millions of transactions and based on condition of item.
Bravo also includes “gun show mode” functionality so businesses who travel to shows, can easily sell guns on the road and comply with tax regs anywhere they go – no manual calculation or reconciliation with accounting.
Now, the only reason I ranked it second here is because Bravo POS is packed with features, which is great, but it means you’ll need some training to get the hang of it all. Bravo offers free training options. They’ve set up on-demand resources you can access anytime, plus they run daily live webinars with their experts. When you’re getting started, Bravo hooks you up with an onboarding project manager, who walks you through the setup process – configuring the system and converting your data. Bravo also offers free support that you can tap into whenever you need it. You can chat with a real person on the phone, get help from their AI assistant Judy, or leverage their library of help articles if prefer self service.

Orchid Review
If your focus now is improving sales in your store and you want a gun shop POS system that can support you here, then Orchid POS might be a good fit for you. It has a lot of features that are specifically aimed at increasing growth.
POS features-wise, it’s hard to beat the Orchid. It’s a one-stop shop for all things gun-related and you don’t need to add any other third-party software because it’s got everything you need from inventory management to invoicing and rentals. You can even sell any excess inventory online in the Orchid e-commerce to clear out stocks.
Personally speaking, I was very tempted to go with this one solely because it has excellent revenue and growth support features; from customer accounts management, and email marketing to loyalty schemes and rewards programs, it can really support you in your marketing efforts. But my buddy wasn’t thinking of expansion or growth, and he’s got a pretty regular clientele he wants to stick to, so he vetoed it.
Orchid also has great compliance features; it offers A&D book search, 4473 management, and serial number tracking. If you run into any issues at all, you can contact their customer service, who are very helpful and are almost always available. Excellent customer service is invaluable and I suggest you take advantage of it wherever you can find it. They are also super transparent with pricing, with plans starting from $175 per month. They are one of the few POS systems to offer this, since with most other stores, you have to reach out for a quote.
These are all really good features, but the problem is that it’s a bit too much for my friend’s store. We really didn’t need all the support features, and it didn’t make sense to get all of this if he was not going to use it. So that’s actually on us and not on Orchid; it simply was not a good fit for our store.
The only real complaint I have is that with Orchid, there is specific hardware that needs to be used for its system, and this can’t be substituted for or bought from other dealers. Since it’s not included in the subscription, you have to pay for it separately, so keep that in mind if you are going with this one.

Rapid Gun Systems Review
Now, for the Rapid Gun Systems, I wouldn’t say it’s my top choice, but if you run a shooting range alongside your store (my buddy doesn’t), it can be the one for you.
The POS itself is standard and nothing too fancy. It’s ATF-compliant and automates a lot of your tasks, like managing inventory and customer accounts. Compared to the other ones on the list, it’s nothing special. But Rapid Gun Systems compensates really well for this with their shooting range support.
Rapid Gun Systems has some excellent shooting range administration features. I’m talking stuff like the automated tracking of rental guns, managing multiple ranges, and even a waitlist feature for when all your shooting lanes are full.
One issue is that range membership administration is not built into the system itself. You have to add in a third-party software called EZFacility, but they’ve done a great job with it, so it’s not really a big problem. With this addition, your customers can book their lane hours and training sessions online, pay up, and even reschedule if needed.
That said, this is not my favorite because of a couple of reasons. One is that it’s not a simple system to learn. The tech support says it gets easier the more you use the system, but what I’ve found is that when something goes wrong, it is hard to fix it and get back on your feet. I’m also not the biggest fan of the tech support rep whose response to my problem was basically asking me to stick with the system and hope it gets better.
The interface is not very user-friendly; it’s pretty complicated and can be hard to navigate. My buddy doesn’t run shooting ranges and even if he opens one in the future, Trident 1 can handle that and has a much better interface as well, so there was no point in getting this for my buddy’s shop.
If you don’t think of yourself as tech-savvy, I would point you to something like the Trident 1 or the Orchid. But if you handle shooting ranges with your gun shop, then the Rapid Gun Systems could work for you.

MicroBiz Cloud Review
If you are just starting out and don’t have a big budget to spend on premium gun shop POS systems, I recommend going with the MicroBiz Cloud. They made it specifically for independent businesses, is affordable, simple to use, and gives you great value for the money.
The POS features are standard, but it gets the job done. You can get real-time inventory updates, manage orders, and even set up automatic purchasing. It has an impressive reporting feature as well and generates very detailed reports; I asked for different types of graphs, charts, and statements, and all it took was one click.
MicroBiz Cloud is a web-based software, which means you can manage your sales from anywhere as long as you have a desktop, iPad, or Mac. But, as I’ve said before, being cloud-based is both a good and bad thing; you can literally manage your shop from anywhere on earth but if you can’t access the internet, there’s not much you can do.
The starting price point is great, just $60 per store per register and you can add on additional registers for $30 bucks each, making it ideal if you are planning on a store expansion in the near future. It’s great value for the money, especially considering all the features you get for the price.
But there’s one thing missing: customizability. You can do some minor changes, but for the most part, you are stuck with the default settings. When I was testing it out during the trial period, I couldn’t really duplicate our usual receipt styles in the system and branding was something very important to my buddy, so we ultimately didn’t go with this one.
But I don’t think I can hold it against MicroBiz Cloud because you get what you pay for. It didn’t work for my friend’s store, but if you are an independent business, I’d say they are worth trying out.

How to find the right gun shop POS system?
All the POS systems I reviewed are great choices that I shortlisted for my buddy’s store as well; from inventory management to marketing support, they’ll give you all the facilities you need to manage your gun shop successfully.
That said, which one should you actually buy? That depends on a bunch of different factors. These are some of the key ones I looked at when we bought the POS system for our store.
- Requirements – What are your biggest problems and what do you need from the gun shop POS system? If you are a small business and are on a budget, going with MicroBiz Cloud could be a good choice. On the other hand, if you manage several stores and ranges, I’d recommend Rapid Gun Systems.
- Security – With the POS system, you’ll be handling some pretty sensitive data, so you need to make sure your system is secure. Check if they have firewalls and encryption to keep your data safe. You can also go the extra mile and see if they are compliant with data security standards like ISO 27001.
- Tech support – A lot of people don’t understand how invaluable good tech support is. My tech support guy from Trident 1 has patiently walked me through so many situations with the system and having someone who is accessible and willing to help you out at any time is a big plus. Also, if something goes wrong with your POS system, you are going to need an accessible and helpful tech support service, so definitely look into this before making your decision.
- Features vs costs – See if the features you are getting for the price are actually worth it for you. Again, this is a very personal choice; features that are perfect for my buddy’s store may not be what you need. Always check that the core features offered by a system are a good fit for your shop. If not, move on to the next option.

Some of my favorite gun shop POS systems, like the Trident 1 and Orchid, are one-stop-shops; they have plenty of features already integrated and you don’t have to worry about finding other software.
