Roy’s Picks For Guns and Gear
Often, I get asked about what some of my favorite gear is or what’s my preferred load out. So, I’ve tossed together a quick list regarding questions I frequently receive.
NOTE: This is subject to change, but here’s what I’m digging on at the moment.
My Favorite Picks
Favorite CCW

Top SHTF Rifle
IWI Tavor X95. This thing’s a beast. I’ve written up a full review on the X95 where you can see just how awesome and fun to shoot this is.

RECOMMENDED HANDGUNS FOR WOMEN
This one’s a two-parter. For revolvers, I typically recommend the S&W Model 638 Airweight. This double-action J-frame is super lightweight and virtually snag-free with its streamlined design. You can conceal it in just about any outfit as well.

As far as semi-autos are concerned, the S&W M&P Shield EZ is the no-brainer choice. It’s super easy to operate, and you don’t need a ton of strength to run it. The Shield EZ comes in 380 and in 9mm as well. I prefer the 9mm myself as the ammo matches up with the rest of my other pistols. We’ve actually done an in-depth writeup on the Shield EZ detailing everything you need to know about it.
FAVORITE HANDGUN SAFE
I’m a big fan of the Vaultek Rechargeable Quick Access. It provides the right amount of remove to keep my handgun secure while allowing fast access when I need it the most.
FAVORITE MECHANICAL SAFE
I’m pleasantly surprised by the Reliancer handgun safe. Sure, it’s not a fully mechanical box. And no, it’s on a Fort Knox Classic. BUT it has a really neat lockout feature which activates after 3 wrong code entries. It will actually alarm for a solid minute letting you know that someone’s breaking into your box. And while that might not be ideal for nervous fingers, it’s perfect if you’ve got curious kids around.
BEST LOCKER FOR RIFLES AND SHOTGUNS
There are a ton of excellent gun safes out there. However, they can really put a dent in your wallet if you’re not careful. I’ve found that the Stack-On GCB-8RTA Gun Cabinet from Amazon works like a dream. It can safely hold up to 8 rifles–depending on load out–and isn’t too heavy.
FAVORITE HEARING PROTECTION
Let’s be real here. Don’t go running off to the range without quality ear pro. I prefer–like many others–the Howard Leight Electronic Headset. They fit great, work well, and won’t break the bank like some other brands. Not much more you can ask for when it comes to quality hearing protection.
RECOMMENDED CLEANING KIT
And lastly, you’re going to need a cleaning kit for your guns. What kind of owner takes their gun into the shop every time it needs cleaned? You need to know how to do basic maintenance on your firearm. I advise picking up the Allen Company Universal Cleaning Kit. It’s got just about everything you need to get started with maintaining your guns. Plus, the toolbox can double as a nice seat when out and about.
Well, that’s about it for now. Got any other questions about what I’m using? Send them my way, and I’ll get them added to the list.
Cheers!
